After nine months of work in preparation for the G8 BMENA Initiative's 9th Forum for the Future, the League team is finalizing documents, participant registrations, travel arrangements, and thousands of other last-minute details.
The Forum will take place in Tunis, the capital of the Republic of Tunisia on December 12-13, with a meeting of civil society participants taking place directly before. Seventy-five members of civil society and private sector representing 23 countries will converge in Tunis to discuss the draft document--the Final Declaration -- that will also be discussed by hundreds of representatives of G8 and regional governments. The Final Declaration will include important pronouncements on this year's BMENA themes: women's empowerment, economic governance and entrepreneurship, and freedom of expression and association.
The highlight of the Forum, without a doubt, is the confirmed participation of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton and other high-level U.S. representatives. The governments of the Republic of Tunisia and the United States of America are the co-hosts of the 9th Forum for the Future.
