This week, LWVUS elections staff were pleased to attend a new poll briefing pinpointing the important role Asian American voters will play in the 2012 elections. Sponsored by Lake Research, Asian American Justice Center, APIA Vote, and the Asian American Institute, the new national survey found key opportunities for candidates on both sides of aisle to court Asian voters this year.
While growing in importance in terms of their share of the American electorate, Asian American voters remain largely untapped politically. Language assistance at registration events and at the polls will be key to increasing opportunities for Asian Americans to successfully cast a vote this year, as will outreach on social media sites reaching specific ethnic groups.
We look forward to more ongoing conversations about how we all can better work together to engage these and other traditionally underrepresented voters.
