"The measure of success is not whether you have a tough problem to deal with, but whether it is the same problem you had last year." -John Foster Dulles

How should membership recruitment work?

After all, membership is everyone's responsibility. Are we a League club? Does our board (and members) ask prospective members to join? (Sometimes you have to ask more than once!)? Do we carry membership forms with us?

Why did it fail?

Is it because only League members know all the good work we do? Are we welcoming to people? Do we accept of "mavericks" (people with unusual ideas)?

How do we fix it?

Think VISIBILITY!!!! Think about innovative ways to "market" your League.

My very first year on my local League board, I convinced a leery board to join me in planning a car rally....just to let our community know we are not "stuffy", have some fun, raise a little money and gain some visibility.

Actually some of my friends, who were not League members, did the planning (No, they all didn't join. But, I am still asking them!). We had a great time! We didn't pick up new members that day, but since then membership has increased little by little.

Brainstorming Rules

Group You can't do it by yourself. You need a group.
NO Criticism! Do not criticize ideas. Accept all and reject non, even if silly or impossible to do them.
Record ALL Ideas Assign one of more people to record ALL ideas.
Wild Ideas are OK Crazy, off-the-wall, and wild ideas are OK! Get really imaginative! Anything goes!
LOTS of Ideas! The more the better! It takes a lot of ideas to come up with a few good ones!

Even a "bad" idea from one person could stimulate someone else to have a "good" idea.
Pick When time is up pick the best solution.
