This position is a key member of the Communications team, reporting to the Communications & Digital
Strategy Senior Director and will work closely with key program and other staff to achieve strategic
alignment between our external messaging and overall organizational priorities.
This position will be responsible for supporting day-to-day internal and external communications needs
including media outreach, social media channels, website development, email program and more.
Responsibilities will also include contributing ideas for a campaign to leverage the organization's 100th
anniversary in 2020.

• Support the Communications team with overall strategy development and daily implementation
across multiple channels of internal and external communication
• Draft press releases, statements, blogs, email copy and pitches on key League impact issues
• Coordinate rapid response messaging with the Senior Director of Communications and other
• Prepare remarks and talking points for League spokespersons
• Communicate between departments to maintain consistency and support the organization's email
• Post content to the League website for multiple departments and coordinate with web
developers for long-term website needs and strategy
• Maintain social media channels for the League with daily content
• Track League news coverage and maintain media contact database
• Create graphics to support messaging campaigns for cross channel use

• 5-7 years of communications experience, prefer non-profit and advocacy work
• Strong writing, editing and presentation skills
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to be flexible, work under pressure and adapt to a fast pace and changing environment
• Ability to work independently but also function well as a team player
• Commitment to the League's mission and a passion for voting rights


• Undergraduate degree
• Background in strategic communications, media relations, particularly with national nonprofit,
political and/or issue campaign experience desired
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) / Office 365 experience
• Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator experience preferred
• Experience working with basic website design (Wordpress or Drupal) desired
• Experience working with email software including Salsa preferred
• Experience maintaining media databases (Cision or Meltwater) preferred
