MEDIA ADVISORY- (INSERT DATE)
What: League of Women Voters of (INSERT LEAGUE NAME) hosts debate watching party for the (INSERT NAME OF OFFICE) Candidate Debate.
When: (INSERT DATE AND TIME)
Where: (INSERT LOCATION)
Why: Debate watching parties bring community members together to discuss the important issues in our elections. Candidate debates are one of the few opportunities for voters to get more than a 30 second sound bite from the candidates who are vying for their vote. Debates give voters the chance to form an opinion by watching and listening to the candidates. Voting brings us together as Americans – it is the one time when we are all equal. It doesn’t matter if you’re rich or poor, young or old, liberal or conservative; Election Day is your opportunity to support each other and your community by having a say in the democratic process.
According to (INSERT LEAGUE PRESIDENT’S NAME), President of the League of Women Voters of (INSERT LEAGUE NAME), “Debates help voters learn more about the candidates and where they stand on important issues. Debates provide one of the only opportunities for voters to hear the candidates explain their positions in their own words without the filter of campaign ad sound bites.”
In addition to this debate watching party, the League of Women Voters of _________ is working on several projects to increase voter participation and citizen involvement. All voters are encouraged to visit the League’s nationwide voter information resource – VOTE411.org – where voters can access their personalized voting guide that will include up-to-date information they need to cast their ballot, including polling place locations, and important deadlines to remember.
