Biography: 

Dr. Wylecia Wiggs Harris is the Chief Executive Officer of the League of Women Voters of the United States and the League of Women Voters Education Fund. She joined the organization in September 2015, coming to the League after most recently serving as Chief Operating Officer at the American Nurses Association (ANA), the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), and the American Nurses Foundation (ANF). Prior to ANA, she was Executive Director of the Center for American Nurses and Executive Director of the Maryland-based Sister to Sister Foundation, and she has held multiple local, regional, and national positions with the American Heart Association. In these roles, Dr. Harris used technology, communication, and innovative approaches as the backbone for building or rebuilding successful educational and outreach programs.

Dr. Harris is a recognized leader in association administration with a passion for organizational development and authentic leadership. She is a member of many professional organizations, boards and committees including the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE), The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, Independent Sector (IS), International Leadership Association (ILA), and a former member of the advisory committee of Capella University’s School of Public Health and the Sister for Sister Foundation Board of Directors. She has written articles for several national publications, such as American Nurse Today, ASAE Journal, and The Nonprofit Quarterly. She has served as a speaker for organizations such as the American Society of Association Executives, The Maryland Nonprofits Association, and Washington, DC Chapter of The links, numerous state nurses associations and local Leagues of Women Voter units. May 2016, she served as the Commencement Speaker for Wittenberg University.

Dr. Harris holds a PhD in organizational development from Capella University in Minneapolis, Minnesota; an honorary doctor of humane letters degree from Wittenberg University, Springfield, Ohio; a master of management degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois; and a bachelor’s degree from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio. She is an ASAE-certified executive director and certified facilitator for leadership assessments through the Center for Creative Leadership.
