Action on voting rights in 2016 looks very similar to last year. On the whole, states are passing less restrictive election laws, and even better, more and more states are reforming their election process to help voters.
Our Youth Voter Registration Program kicked off in nearly 40 communities nationwide. League volunteers in 15 states will visit local high schools, community colleges and technical/vocational schools to help young people get registered and ready to vote in 2014.
Each state has focused some of their energy on voting rights and elections – 2230 bills relating to elections, both good and bad, have been introduced in state legislatures across the country since January.
Voting rights have been under attack in state legislatures across the country for more than a decade and there are no signs of it letting up in 2013. Indeed 2013 could be a year that sets back voting rights more than all of the attacks of the past decade combined.
