In last night’s annual State of the Union (SOTU) address, President Obama laid out his priorities for the coming year. His words addressed a range of critical issues affecting the country – including a number of the League’s priority issues. 2013 may not have been a federal election year, but it was still an important year for voting and elections, which means that League volunteers, members, staff and supporters worked tirelessly once again Making Democracy Work®.
The League’s Public Advocacy for Voter Protection Project is now entering its’ eighth year of working to stop voter suppression and ensure voting is free, fair and accessible to all eligible voters. Over the years we have seen a steady increase in voter suppression across the country.
The veracity of elections results are continually questioned because of faulty systems. The League advocates for improved systems and machines, provisional balloting and other safeguards and improvements in voter registration systems, poll worker training and administration.
