Faced with a slate of 10 candidates for city government, the League of Women Voters of Southwest Missouri decided to try something new to introduce them to voters. The League dubbed the event “Candi-dating” and based the format on speed dating.
Two months into the 2015 State Legislative sessions and we have seen a groundswell of assaults on voters in many states. League of Women Voters activists have been working around the clock to fight back against these threats as well as to advance opportunities for voters.
Each state has focused some of their energy on voting rights and elections – 2230 bills relating to elections, both good and bad, have been introduced in state legislatures across the country since January.
Voting rights have been under attack in state legislatures across the country for more than a decade and there are no signs of it letting up in 2013. Indeed 2013 could be a year that sets back voting rights more than all of the attacks of the past decade combined.
