The LWVNC v. Rucho case is a partisan gerrymandering challenge to the North Carolina congressional map. Partisan gerrymandering is the practice of drawing electoral district lines in a way that discriminates against a political party.

The Supreme Court will hear arguments in a challenge to North Carolina’s 2016 congressional redistricting plan, one of the most egregious partisan gerrymanders in U.S. history.

LWV of North Carolina supports the Board of Elections’ decision to delay certification of the results of the 9th Congressional District election until a thorough investigation has been conducted.

Today a three-judge panel ruled that four Wake County House Districts violated the North Carolina Constitution and ordered the district maps redrawn in the next legislative session.

The League filed a brief in the case of Common Cause v. Rucho with the Supreme Court on October 31.
