We’re running out of time, so I’ll get right to the point.
A group of generous donors has offered to match, dollar-for-dollar, your gift to the League of Women Voters Education Fund, up to $50,000 … but we MUST receive it by December 31.That means you only have days left to make your support for the League and all of our work to defend voters’ rights and increase citizen participation in our democracy go TWICE as far.
If you’re one of the thousands of supporters who has already taken advantage of this terrific opportunity to double your generosity, THANK YOU! But if you haven’t, please send your most generous gift right now.
Next year will be the first presidential election since the U.S. Supreme Court gutted key provisions of the Voting Rights Act in 2013. Since that decision, states across the country have instituted new barriers to disenfranchise voters. That means millions of voters will encounter outrageous new obstacles that will make it tougher for them to register and vote during this critically important election year.
At the same time, billionaires and special interest groups will brazenly pump huge sums of money into unaccountable Super PACs.
Our democracy is under assault, but the League is fighting back on all fronts — by registering hundreds of thousands of new voters and increasing voter turnout. Our Be Counted – Youth Vote 2016 campaign, for example, will sign up thousands of new voters in high schools, especially those in minority and low-income communities.
And our VOTE411.org website gives voters across the country all the information they need about elections, including personalized voting guides that include their polling place, voting rules and what to expect on their ballot.
We’ve got a lot of work ahead of us. Let’s get started.
Thank you standing with the League — and the right of all Americans to participate in our democracy.
