• The League of Women Voters is sponsoring a workshop during the 56th meeting of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) that will take place at United Nations Headquarters in New York from Monday, February 27 to Friday, March 9, 2012.  The workshop is a side event organized to address the main theme of the meeting "The Empowerment of Rural Women and their Role in Poverty and Hunger Eradication."

  • It’s hard to believe, but it’s almost time to flip the calendar to 2012. In the coming year, we will be active on many fronts, but with special emphasis on providing the public with all the information they need to navigate the election system, learn the issues, and vote for the candidates of their choice.

  • Under a contract with Democracy International (DI) the League will advise DI-Bangladesh on different activities that will be created to demonstrate to party leaders the value of increasing their share of women’s voters and of supporting and backing women candidates. To accomplish this goal DI-Bangladesh will create seven Women’s Centers that will undertake outreach,  training, and create a women’s awareness program to enhance the Centers’ work.

  • The fifty-sixth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will take place at the United Nations Headquarters in New York from Monday, February 27 to Friday, March 9, 2012.

  • In 2011 the League of Women Voters, in partnership with the Leagues of St. Paul, MN; Baltimore County, MD; White Bear Lake Area, MN and Door County, WI organized hosting programs on the theme of Accountable Governance with subthemes on Municipal Governance, Elections, and Media and Participatory Government. During the year 24 visitors from Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Tajikistan were hosted for one week of intense programming on the themes.

  • The League of Women Voters was invited by the U.S. Embassy in Cairo to meet with 20-30 women activists on how to work effectively on issues of importance to women during the transition period to democracy.  Zaida Arguedas, the League's Deputy Executive Director and Senior Director of its Global Democracy Program was asked to lead this effort.

  • On July 26, 2011, the League's Deputy Executive Director was interviewed in Cairo by Nile International TV in its morning breakfast show.

  • Washington, DC --The League of Women Voters Education Fund announced today that Zaida Arguedas, Deputy Executive Director and Senior Director of Global Democracy Programs will travel to Egypt later this week to address women’s rights in advance of the upcoming elections.

  • In May 2011 Deputy Executive Director Zaida Arguedas traveled to Tunisia at the invitation of a group of concerned women. The goals of the visit were to meet the stakeholders concerned and interested in actively engaged in activities to promote democracy in Tunisia. During the visit Zaida Arguedas was introduced to some of the potential association partners and completed a series of workshops and discussions with the founders, board members and experts to learn from the experiences of the League both in the United States and abroad.

  • The League was thrilled to share its year-long 90th Anniversary celebration with its valued partners around the world by holding a series of events celebrating and promoting women's leadership, elections, and good governance and transparency. Events began in August, 2010 and concluded in April, 2011.
