It’s not often that I attend a League luncheon where the keynote speaker receives a standing ovation upon arrival. But on Tuesday, in celebration of the League of Women Voters of Georgia’s annual Power of the Vote! luncheon Congressman John Lewis received just such an ovation.
It has been quite a week and it is only Wednesday! Sunday, members of the League of Women Voters of the City of New York were joined by League members from as far away as Oregon in a colorful and enthusiastic march on climate change. Proudly carrying the League banner, members rallied support for addressing this critical issue.
Today is National Voter Registration Day, a nationwide effort to register hundreds of thousands of voters on one single day. In 2012 and 2013, National Voter Registration Day partners helped 350,000 voters register to vote on this day of nationwide action!
Today, League members are gathering with thousands of activists from around the world at the People's Climate March in New York City to push for strong action on climate change. The March will call attention to the strong public support for moving ahead with meaningful action to fight climate change in advance of the United Nations Climate Summit later this week.
