COLUMBUS & WASHINGTON – The League of Women Voters of the United States and the League of Women Voters of Ohio issued the following joint statement upon news that Ohio leaders are intervening to delay in-person elections and expand absentee voting until June 2 in the wake of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) outbreak:
“We commend Governor DeWine and Secretary LaRose for recommending tomorrow’s in-person primary election be postponed until June and expanding absentee ballot options for all Ohio voters. It is imperative that voters feel safe when participating in our elections and now is the time to assure voters that they can cast their ballots safely and with confidence.
“The League of Women Voters applauds the decision to provide mail-in ballots for every Ohio voter. These extensions must include ballots available for pick-up and drop-off at any polling location so that all voters can fully participate.
“The League stands by ready to assist the Secretary of State, local county boards of elections, and voters statewide to ensure this election is fair, accessible, and safe for all Ohioans.”
