Shannon Augustus Named National Press Secretary for the League of Women Voters of the United States

Press Release / Last Updated:

WASHINGTON – Today the League of Women Voters is proud to announce Shannon Augustus as the organization’s national press secretary. Shannon joins the League’s growing communications team and will lead the organization’s media relations work.

“We’re excited to have Shannon onboard to serve as national press secretary as the League focuses on midterm elections, redistricting, and voter access this year,” said Sarah Courtney, chief communications officer of the League of Women Voters of the United States. “We welcome Shannon to the team and value her experience and relationships with media that will help raise the League’s visibility and tell our story of democracy protection.”

Prior to joining the League of Women Voters, Shannon served as a strategic marketing manager for a state government affairs firm. There, she led and supported the firm’s strategic marketing, communications, and brand messaging. Shannon began her professional career at C-SPAN, where she worked for several years as a producer covering the White House and several presidential elections. In addition to her stint covering national politics, Shannon held roles in C-SPAN's marketing and communications department with the C-SPAN Bus Program, where she organized the network’s corporate and community relations activities.

“I am thrilled to join the League of Women Voters as national press secretary,” said Augustus, who stared in the role in December. “I look forward to my work amplifying the League’s mission and all the extraordinary work we’re doing to empower voters and to protect voting rights across the country.”

Shannon joins the League of Women Voters at a pivotal time, as the League focuses on the 2022 midterm elections and its “Women Power Democracy” initiative, which aims to tackle systemic challenges to voting rights through advocacy, litigation, and organizing.
