Senior Director, Inclusion and Belonging

Reporting to the chief operating officer (COO), the senior director, inclusion & belonging (SDIB) serves as an operational leader within the organization. This full-time role oversees and directs internal organizational processes and infrastructure of Human Resources and Transformation teams. The SDIB will work closely with the COO in strategic and operational planning, supporting staff and leadership in enhancing the organizational effectiveness of critical initiatives. 

The SDIB will be pivotal in developing and implementing strategies that prioritize stewardship, innovation, and the establishment of robust operational practices. This role also emphasizes building and maintaining effective partnerships and trusted internal and external relationships.  

The ideal candidate will have experience implementing new initiatives organization-wide in nonprofit or corporate settings and can exercise nimbleness and adaptability within the organization during a period of growth and transformation. 

Requirements

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and Implement Strategic Practices: Design and implement consistent practices and strategic frameworks across an organization.
  • Integrate DEI Principles: Lead the incorporation of diversity, equity, and inclusion into programmatic creation and change management processes.
  • Oversee HR and Systems Operation: Manage and align human resources and systems operation of new membership platform.
  • Drive continuous improvement: Support measurement and evaluation approaches to achieve organizational goals and ensure ongoing responsiveness to qualitative improvements.
  • Foster Cross-Organizational Collaboration: Collaborate across the organization to develop and employ effective operational strategies and campaigns.
  • Build Stakeholder Buy-in: Engage stakeholders and shepherd new systems and processes by a tri-federated volunteer workforce to enhance membership, revenue, and engagement.
  • Communicate strategically: Deliver clear and comprehensive communication of strategies and execution plans to staff, membership, and the board.
  • Partner with Leadership: Collaborate with institutional leadership, special committees, and consultants to execute and deliver key initiatives.
  • Mentor and Management: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of individuals within a collegial environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS:

Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. Human Resources experience required. Advanced degree in management, leadership, or administration, or equivalent experience in public service, government, or private sector, preferred. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Experience developing and driving diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in organizations.
  • Progressive experience leading teams with varied expertise in an operational or administrative environment. Track record of building thriving, disciplined, cohesive teams.
  • Understands systems and organizational development strategies to support change management.
  • Capable of leading with composure, flexibility, and efficiency during demanding times.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, navigate innovation situations, and be well organized.
  • Good judgment and quick thinking with a solution-oriented approach to work and management.
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in balancing priorities and problem-solving.
  • Strong negotiation and multi-stakeholder consensus-building skills.
  • Proven attention to detail, delivering outcomes, and consistently meeting deadlines.
  • Excellent presentation skills—both written and oral.
