North Carolina Politicians Target College Students’ Right to Vote

Deirdre Mcnab, president of the League of Women Voters of Florida writes about how the problems at the polls on Election Day 2012 resulted in the recent changes in Florida's election laws, including increased early voting.

The League once again calls on the President and the nation's new elections commission to make bold changes to make elections free, fair and accessible.

"A coalition of voter protection groups gathered on the steps of the Miami-Dade and Orange County courthouses Monday urgently calling for an independent task force be created to investigate what went wrong in Florida on Election Day and the early voting period. 'It is clear that Florida’s 2012 election process was shameful and unacceptable,' said Maribel Balbin, president of the Miami Dade League of Women Voters."

"The tragic disruptions caused by Hurricane Sandy so close to Election Day highlight how shortsighted it would be for New York to continue as one of only 15 states that do not allow either early in-person voting or no-excuse absentee ballots.... Both are reforms that the League of Women Voters of New York State supports..."

"If early voting is any clue, Valley turnout in today's election will be big. ... Elections volunteers from the League of Women Voters...Tom Zimoski, Patricia Anderson, and Dolores O'Neal, open vote-by-mail ballots at the Fresno County Elections office on Monday."
