The U.S. Supreme Court issued a big victory for citizen-led democracy. In a 5-4 decision in Arizona State Legislature v. Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission, the Court found that voters can set up independent redistricting commissions.

On the second anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision, advocates met in Roanoke, VA to call upon Virginia Congressman Bob Goodlatte to act to restore the Voting Rights Act.

Today, the Court rejected the Arizona legislature's argument that only they can conduct federal redistricting under the U.S. Constitution.

The League joined an amicus brief in King v. Burwell that focused on the impact of the Affordable Care Act on women’s health, arguing that the tax subsidies are essential to women’s health and the ACA’s continued viability.

The Affordable Care Act has brought us closer to what we should be: a nation that ensures affordable, quality healthcare for all. Today's decision reinforces the bedrock of our healthcare system.

“We are very pleased that new legislation has been introduced but there is so much more work to be done with the 2016 elections are quickly approaching,” said President MacNamara.

When looking at the now almost complete 2015 state legislative sessions, not only were fewer pieces of anti-voter legislation successful, more pro-voter reforms were introduced and passed!

Ninety-six years ago today, Congress passed the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote, and was sent to the states for ratification.

It’s time to close this loophole that is letting too much big money into our elections. Stand up today and urge your Representatives to strengthen the coordination rules!
