Shannon Augustus serves as press secretary of the League of Women Voters of the United States, where she is responsible for the League’s press outreach and media requests.

In the largest activation in history, the League of Women Voters will host more than 600 voter registration events this year in recognition of National Voter Registration Day. 

The Black Voters Matter, and Naeva (formerly known as Native American Voters Alliance) moved today to intervene on behalf of voters in a lawsuit.

WASHINGTON  — The League of Women Voters of the United States partnered with the Broadway musical Suffs in recognition of Women’s Equality Day, the day commemorating the adoption of the nineteenth amendment to the United States Constitution in 1920, which gave some women the right to vote. 

WASHINGTON, DC —  Leading up to Women’s Equality Day, the League of Women Voters of the United States and League chapters from all 50 states and the District of Columbia sent a letter to the White House and members of Congress urging action for the immediate publication of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) in the US Constitution. December 2024 marks 101 years since the ERA was first introduced in Congress. 

WASHINGTON – Today, The League of Women Voters Education Fund (LWVEF) and Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) announced a new, two-year partnership that will support Girl Scouts’ Promote the Vote program and civic engagement opportunities for Girl Scouts across the country. Building on GSUSA and LWVEF’s long histories of civic engagement, the partnership will connect local Leagues and Girl Scout councils to support Girl Scout troops participating in Promote the Vote, as well as in completing civics badges, earning the Gold Award and more. 

The American Civil Liberties Union, ACLU of South Carolina, and Duffy & Young LLC filed a lawsuit today challenging partisan gerrymandering of South Carolina’s congressional districts. The League of Women Voters of South Carolina is the plaintiff.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A federal court has struck down restrictions in Ohio’s House Bill 458 that made it a crime for all but a handful of family members to assist voters with disabilities in casting absentee ballots. 

The League of Women Voters of the United States and the League of Women Voters of Mississippi, along with the Mississippi Center for Justice, One Voice, Mississippi Votes, the Mississippi State Conference of the NAACP, Black Voters Matter, the Mississippi Poor People’s Campaign, the Reaching and Educating for Community Hope (RECH) Foundation, Strong Arms of Mississippi, the Mississippi Prison Reform Coalition, the People’s Advocacy Institute (PAI), and the Legal Defense Fund (LDF) released the following statement after the US Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit in Hopkins v. Watson overturned its earlier decision that declared Mississippi’s lifetime felony voting ban was unconstitutional.
